Understanding your legal costs
We understand that the thought of legal fees can be overwhelming, particularly when you are already dealing with the financial and emotional challenges of separation.
For many people, engaging a family lawyer is unfamiliar territory, and not knowing what it might cost can add another layer of stress.
At LMC Lawyers, we believe it is important that you have a clear understanding of your likely legal costs from the outset. You should be able to make informed decisions, understand your financial commitments and plan accordingly.
Our professional fees are generally charged on an hourly basis, with the applicable rates and billing arrangements clearly set out in a Costs Agreement provided to you at the commencement of your matter.
We will discuss our fees and the likely costs involved at your initial appointment, including the work that may be required, the issues that could affect the overall cost and ways to approach your matter as efficiently as possible.
We also understand that family law matters can evolve, and that the work required may change as negotiations progress or if Court proceedings become necessary. Where circumstances change, we will keep you informed about the work being undertaken and any implications for your legal costs.
Our focus is on providing practical, strategic advice and helping you avoid unnecessary legal expense wherever possible. We want you to understand not only what we are doing, but why it is necessary and how it contributes to achieving an outcome.
Fixed Fee Divorces
Not every family law matter needs to be charged on an hourly basis.
At LMC Lawyers, we offer a fixed fee for non-contested divorce applications. This means you know our professional fee upfront, rather than having to worry about the time involved in preparing and progressing a straightforward divorce application.
We will explain what is included in the fixed fee and any additional Court filing fees that may apply, so you understand the total likely cost before proceeding.
